Mississippi Blues Musician Michael Holloway has come home to his Mississippi roots. Michael Holloway - grew up in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He is the son of a fourth generation logging family. His father lost his leg when Mike was little and Mike remembered carrying his dad’s guitar into the jukes all over the Mississippi Delta. His dad’s playing the guitar, the harp and the violin also influenced Mike greatly. Mike says that he gets his inspiration from the three kings – B.B., Albert, and Freddie. Add a touch of Clapton and a healthy respect for the slide work of Sonny Landreth, and you have some sense of his roots. During Mike’s musical journey he has spent some years in Arkansas, Texas, and Tennessee. He spent some time touring in Europe. During the years he spent in Nashville he was named Entertainer of the Year and Guitarist of the Year by Music City Blues. He was also named Best Southern Blues Guitarist of the Year by Real Blues Magazine. Real Blues Magazine named Mike’s CD" Blues Travels" Fast as one of the TOP 5 SOUTHERN BLUES ALBUMS. Michael Holloway and the Crosstie Walkers will represent Crossroads Blues Society – Rosedale, Mississippi at the International Blues Competition in January 2010 in the band division .Mike and his band the Crosstie Walkers represented Rosedale, Mississippi (Crossroads Blues Society) at the 2010 International Blues Challenge. Mike has many recognitions as a guitar player, song writer and performer. ************** Mike says that he gets his inspiration from the three kings – B.B., Albert, and Freddie. Add a touch of Clapton and a healthy respect for the slide work of Sonny Landreth, and you have some sense of his roots. This seasoned Bluesman is a song writer. Along the way Mike wrote a song as a tribute to Albert King who has inspired him so. Dan Aykroyd selected Mike’s tribute song to Albert King, “King of the Blues,” as a feature on his show. You can watch Mike sing this song in a video at www. youtube.com/deltabluesmama. Michael Holloway’s CD Blues Travels Fast showcases his song writing ability. The album was recognized by Real Blues Magazine http://www.realbluesmagazine.com as one of the Top 5 Southern blues Albums shortly after its release. Real Blues Magazine also named Michael Holloway as Best Southern Blues Guitarist of the Year after reviewing the CD. In 2000 Michael was named Music City Blues Awards http://www.musiccityblues.org/ Entertainer of the Year and Guitarist of the Year. Malcolm Hare, owner of Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar, http://www.bourbonstreetblues.com recipient of 2000 KBA (Keeping the Blues Alive Award) http://blues.org Award as Blues Club of the Year says this about “Blues Travels Fast” – “It’s hard to pick which of Mike’s talents shines the most – his extraordinary guitar work, his barroom growl vocals or his grab-your-gut writing – Oh, hell, don’t analyze it – just enjoy one the best CD’s ….. Various reviews compare the singer-songwriter-guitarist with Wes Montgomery, Sonny Landreth, George Benson, Carlos Santana, the Kings (Albert, B.B., and Freddie) Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Billy Gibbons. Mike’s second CD Ridin’ This Train gives us 14 more original songs that illustrate his diverse musical vision. This was written while he was recovering from a career-threatening injury. He wrote it as a way of thanking everyone who helped him through his ordeal as he recovered from a fall which broke several bones and laid him up for months. Lew Jetton says this about Ridin’ This Train: The song "Ridin' This Train" is a gem. It's a slower, reflective and mellow song, with almost a gospel feel, which is well suited to Holloway's voice, which holds power, emotion and a smooth quality, all at once. ……"Flood of '93" provides a very classy, jazzy feel with a touch of Delta thrown in. It's a very original sound and like a lot of Holloway's efforts, sets him apart. "Sure Could Play The Blues" is more contemporary, with a very nice guitar hook, while "WWW Too Much Dot Com" provides another avenue for Holloway's wit over his Dobro, as he laments the potholes along the information highway….. Holloway is an original, and one of the few who can make you think, tap your toes and amaze you musically all at once. Lew Jetton, Music City Blues letter Michael Holloway the Mississippi Blue Collar Bluesman with an UPTOWN Sound has come home to Mississippi. Over the years has been spending lots of time on the road honing his singing, songwriting, and guitar licks. Over the years if you missed seeing Mike at clubs such as B.B. King’s, Memphis or House of Blues, New Orleans don’t worry. You can catch him soon in a club near you. Mississippi welcomes Mike home. Mike says “I truly love what I do. Music is a healer.
