The Michael Cameron double bass competition honors the legacy and celebrates the life of a world-renowned musician and educator who served as principal bass player for both the Camera Symphony and the Champaign Urban Symphony Orchestra.
As a double bass teacher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he had a positive impact on the lives of his students, including Dr. Marcos Machado, founder and organizer of Bass by the Sea. Machado works as a double bass teacher at USM and maintains an active international agenda as a performer, educator and administrator.
